Men's Health and Erection problem

While the life-expectancy gap between men and women has decreased, it's no secret that men still need to pay more attention to their bodies. Several things work against men. They tend to smoke and drink more than women. They don't seek medical help as often as women. Some men define themselves by their work, which can add to stress.

There are also health conditions that only affect men, such as prostate cancer and low testosterone. Many of the major health risks that men face – like colon cancer or heart disease - can be prevented and treated with early diagnosis. Screening tests can find diseases early, when they are easier to treat. It's important to have regular checkups and screenings.

Erection problems

Definition

An erection problem is the inability to get or maintain an erection that is firm enough for a man to have intercourse. You may be unable to get an erection at all, or you may lose the erection during intercourse before you are ready. If the condition persists, the medical term is erectile dysfunction.

Alternative Names Erectile dysfunction; Impotence; Sexual dysfunction - male Considerations Erection problems are common in adult men. In fact, almost all men experience occasional difficulty getting or maintaining an erection. In many cases, it is a temporary condition that will go away with little or no treatment. In other cases, it can be an ongoing problem that can damage a man's self esteem and harm his relationship with his partner, and thus requires treatment.

Home Care

For many men, lifestyle changes can help:

Cut down on smoking, alcohol, and illegal drugs. Get plenty of rest and take time to relax. Exercise and eat a healthy diet to maintain good circulation. Use safe sex practices, which reduces fear of HIV and STDs. Talk openly to your partner about sex and your relationship. If you are unable to do this, counseling can help.Couples who cannot talk to each other are not likely to be able to make love to each other. Men who have trouble communicating their feelings may find it difficult to share with their partner any anxieties about their sexual performance. If you keep worries to yourself, you are more likely to lose erections. Men who cannot express and resolve feelings of anger or frustration towards their partner may hold back their erection as a weapon in the conflict. In these circumstances, counseling can be very helpful for both you and your partner.

If erection problems seem to be caused by a medication you are taking for an unrelated condition, consult your doctor. You may benefit from reducing the dose of the drug or changing to another drug that has the same result but not the same side effects. DO NOT adjust or discontinue medications without consulting your doctor first.
Talk to your health care provider if your erection problems are related to fear of recurring heart problems -- sexual

Treatment for erectile dysfunction

Viagra (Sildenafil) was approved by the Food and Drug administration (FDA) in 1998 and was the first drug for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Given as an oral medication, 9 tablets are dispensed every second worldwide and Pfizer, the manufacturer of the drug says that millions of men have been helped to improve their sex lives. Impotence, or erectile dysfunction, is a problem that affects most men at some time in their lives. Viagra is a drug for those whose problem is not resolving in the short term and who have been advised by their doctor that it is a safe drug for them to try.

Is Generic Male enhancement drug safe?

Generic drug producers must gain approval from the FDA by meeting the same strict standards as the innovators of the drug. The generic form must contain the same active ingredients and must be identical in dosage, potency, and method of administration. Generic drug makers must also utilize the same good manufacturing practice regulations as their name brand counterparts.

No erection pill for fun

If you are on an erection pill for fun and go for it bit too often, you may be in for some serious trouble.

One kind of erection pill has skyrocketed in its sale, more than 300% last year compared to the previous one. As the sales registers tear at their seams, this year the pill is projected to score even higher.

Dr Jolly Kensal, a sexologist, of late has been getting some serious patients who have been on erection pills for long. These are the patients who never needed a pill but had it for fun, weekend after weekend and then every few days. But why did they have it? To prolong erection, was the common refrain. They all did so much in the bed that their partners dropped dead and begged for their life.

And they all boasted of their prowess and got hooked to it before they discovered that their natural course of erection was disturbed. Some reported terrible instances of fatigue in their organ after a prolonged performance and it was difficult to recover back and go for natural erection next time.

A heavy price is in store for them. Essentially to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), the erection pills are by nature vasodilators which facilitate blood flow into the shaft of penis to cause an erection. While one can buy Cialis to treat his ED disorder, for an otherwise healthy individual this will prolong erection. In other words, a prolonged erection will unnaturally overstress penile muscles. Muscle fatigue and ache could be among the first reactions to this recreational misuse of an erection aid. An overfatigued muscle first of all would not respond so much to a natural stimulation, and such responses would have tendency to die out over a long period.

In a healthy man the natural erection pumped with a stimulant though would boost up his sexual prowess initially, but this will not sustain and will always be short lived after sometime. A permanent condition of erectile dysfunction may be set in if erection pills are used over a long period, which may vary from one healthy man to another.

What to Expect at Your Office Visit

To help diagnose the cause of the problem, your doctor will ask medical history questions, such as:

  1. Have you been able to achieve and maintain erections in the past?
  2. Is the difficulty in achieving erections or maintaining the erection?
  3. Do you have erections during sleep?
  4. How long have you had difficulty with erections?
  5. What medications are you taking (including prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, recreational drugs)?
  6. Do you smoke?
  7. How much each day?
  8. Do you use alcohol?
  9. How much?
  10. Have you recently had surgery?
  11. Have you ever had vascular surgery or other treatments for your blood vessels?
  12. Are you depressed?
  13. Are you afraid or worried about something?
  14. Are you experiencing a lot of stress?
  15. Has your energy level decreased?
  16. Are you sleeping well each night?
  17. Are you afraid of sexual activity because of physical problems?
  18. Have there been any recent changes in your life?
  19. What other symptoms do you have?
  20. Have you noticed changes in sensations in your penis?
  21. Do you have any problems with urination?
